If i had the opportunity to, I would get tested to see if I carry the gene that is at higher risk of developing breast cancer. It is easier to catch breast cancer in and earlier stage if you know that you are at higher risk of getting it. I would try to be more prepared and get tested more often then suggested for whatever age I am at the time. Being prepared for something like cancer is a lot easier to cope with then being blindsided and not knowing what to do next. I am not sure I could bring myself to have a prophylactic mastectomy. I fully believe that everything happens for a reason. I would try my hardest to be prepared in case I did get breast cancer and do everything I could to prevent it except for having a prophylactic mastectomy; however, if one of my family members like my mom or sister, wanted to have a prophylactic mastectomy then I would fully support them in their decision.
