Healthy School Lunches

When I am buying lunch at school I typically go for whatever smells the best. It sounds funny but it's true.  Sometime I go get a wrap and our school offers whole grain wraps, which taste the same but are healthier so why not get the one thats better for you? They also offer different varieties of pastas everyday which are all really really good.  My favorite is the antipasta salad with green peppers, black olives, cumbers, cheese, and salami or ham.  It's covered in oil and vinegar but I probably get a full service of vegitables out of it so it probably evens out.  For a drink I bring a water to school from home because I am always thirsty in the mornings.  I think that there are a few things thats are promoted in out cafetria more then they should be.  For example, the hot lunches never seem to look healthy to me but they always smell very good and there is always a woman there to help you.  There is a big heated shelf with pizza, hamburgers, french fries and other fast food foods that are right in front of you as you walk in.  One of the good things that our school has is the ice cream is facing the back wall and it's not very obvious that it's there.  If they were not in plain sight of the students then I don't think that as many studnts would buy the unhealthy food.  Because of the size of our school, many students will not get something if there is too long of a line or if it is too hard to get to.  I do believe that changes in what the school offers will have an effect on what students choose to eat for lunch everyday. If healthy food is more available and easier to get to in the cafeteria, then most students willl probably just get the healthier food.  In the end we will all admit to it, we all go with the easier choice.
