In the article "Could your seafood contain toxic chemicals?" it talks about the possibility of shrimp, crab, and other seafood imported from foreign countries being contaminated. The article says that through their research they have found "fish in dirty sewage water, pumped with toxic antibiotics and banned drugs just to keep them alive, boosting production and driving down costs." I think that the FDA should have talked to the press instead of refusing it and just saying that they were working on it. I almost feel as if they should have refused all imported seafood because it is not worth risk of giving Americans cancer or having birth defects. I feel that if the FDA wanted to reduce cost and also not have to worry about importing any diseases then they should only use the seafood produced on the borders of the US because if they're was something wrong with it then we would be able to contain it because it is so close. I also think that it would reduce costs because they wouldn't have to pay for it to be shipped here from other countries.
